National Weather Service: Watch for possible flooding in Vernonia

The National Weather Service has posted a

The service predicts a night of heavy rain – around one or two inches – in northwest Oregon and urges people in the area of the flood watch to be aware of the danger of landslides and debris flows that could impact structures below steep slopes. The service also advises people living in areas prone to flooding to be prepared to take action if flooding develops.

A flood watch is less severe than a flood warning, which states that flooding is in progress.

Vernonia experienced a severe bouts of flooding in 1996 and 2007.

As of 2:07 p.m. on Thursday, Scappoose and St. Helens are not in the flood watch area.
