Local dignitaries breaking ground included: Columbia County Commissioner Tony Hyde, Oregon State Sen. Betsy Johnson, Columbia City Mayor Cheryl Young, Columbia County Rider Board Member Dan Garrison, ODOT Representative David Kim, Columbia County Commissioner Earl Fisher, and Columbia County Commissioner Rita Bernhard.

Columbia County Rider broke ground last Friday on a new transit center, located just off Highway 30 on Deer Island Road (the old Friesen Lumber site). The 5.4 acre property was purchased with a $1.14 million grant from the Connect Oregon II program. They received another $570,000 through the Oregon Department of Transportation and the federal reinvestment act to construct an office building, and Park & Ride station.
