‘The Apprentice’ nears finale, scholarship award

In September, Adam Sommers of Sommers Financial Services launched a scholarship competition for St. Helens High School sudents modeled on the TV show, “The Apprentice.” Over the course of the fall, 10 students on two teams competed to see who could come up with the best marketing approach for local business sponsors.

And while the kids work on teams, they accrue points individually. The teen with the most points will win a $1,000 scholarship. “Five of the 10 are within 35 points of each other, so it’s close,” Sommers said.

On Dec. 14, the competition will host its last presentation for local business Whereexactly.com at 6:30 in the Loo Witt Room at St. Helens High School. That same day, judges will announce the winner of the $1,000 scholarship. Admission is $1.

For more information, contact Adam Sommers at 503-349-1543.

Pamela Reynolds, Barber’s aunt, said the send-off will start at 1 p.m. and run until 5 p.m. with a potluck, a chance to visit and an autograph signing. Toward the end of the send-off, Barber will perform the dance routine she’s perfecting for her performance at the Miss American pageant, Reynolds said.
