A shop in Deer Island was destroyed Saturday after it was fully engulfed in flames.
The cause of the blaze in the 29600 block of East Meissner Road is still undetermined, but appears to be an accident, according to Columbia River Fire and Rescue Division Chief Bill Goodwin.
The homeowners Mark and Dana Hestekin have insurance on nearly 1,300-square-foot building.
The fire started around 4:50 a.m. on Dec. 19 and it took about six hours for the three fire engines, two water tenders and two command units to put out all the hot spots.
To fight the flames, firefighters not only used large hoses, but also pumped water from a nearby pond.
Two horses that were near the fire were not injured, but a tractor and 24-foot boat that were inside were destroyed. An antique Jeep that was parked bearby was also damaged by the heat radiating from the fire. Damage estimates are not yet known.
