Town gets big break on flood insurance

Mailing flood insurance outreach brochures to properties within the floodplain.

Disclosing hazards within the floodplain.

Maintaining flood protection information at the public library.

Providing technical advice and assistance to interested property owners.

Preserving 15.88 acres in Special Flood Hazard Area as open space.

Enforcing regulations that require freeboard for new and substantial remodeled existing construction.

Enforcing regulations pertaining to storm water management, soil and erosion control and water quality.

Inspecting and maintaining the community’s drainage system that includes prohibiting dumping within the draining system.

Denise Atkinson, a representative from the office of Homeland Security, Federal Emergency Management Agency, gave Mayor Scott Burge a plaque July 7 recognizing the city’s rating.
