Asked how he’ll balance being a councilor, business owner, teacher, father and skateboarding advocate, Erickson says he’s looking forward to the challenge.
“I’m excited,” Erickson says. “I think I’ll have to find a balance … but I’m looking forward to being able to sit on the council and, hopefully, to make the right calls.”
Get to know the newest member of the Scappoose City Council
Name: Jeff Erickson
Age: 35
Hometown: Scappoose
Family: Wife, Susan, and two daughters, Kamryn, 7, and Kaleigh, 3
Education: Graduated from Scappoose High in 1991. Earned bachelor’s degree in communica
tions from Oregon State University.
Political life: Won his bid for Scappoose City Council on Nov. 4. Will start his term in January.
Private life: Co-owns the Scappoose Laundromat with his wife; runs a skateboard design business from his home in Scappoose; is a part-time substitute teacher at Scappoose High School and considers himself a part-time, stay-at-home dad.
On Scappoose: “Some people don’t like the expansion of the town … but I have to say, I never thought we’d see a movie theater here — or even a Fred Meyer, so it’s come a long way since I was a kid.”
On skateboarding: “When I was in high school, skating was definitely not popular. Now football players have skateboards, which is cool — they just don’t have any idea what we went through back in the day.”
On being a stay-at-home dad: “My wife doesn’t cook, so I make most of the meals,” he says. “I guess I’m a red meat guy. I like to cook All-American food, but healthy.”
Something you may not know about Erickson: He likes the theater. “I used to go to OSU theater productions when I was in college,” he says. “My favorite is probably ‘Death of a Salesman.’”

Two front page articles in a couple Months? This is getting ridiculous. I am unclear to as why there is so much attention given to Skateboarding in general. Why is such a small populous of people in Scappoose given such a big amount of money for a new park facility? Im not sure of the numbers, but Ill bet there are more people that would get use out of a Swimming Pool or some playground equipment.

Good on you Jeff!! It will be nice to have someone in office whom understands what the youth of today need. We have been advocates of that skate park since it was constructed. I don't know how long "Old School" has lived here, but, ever since my 40 something husband had been in grade school here, Scappoose has been trying to get enough money for a community swimming pool. I would have to bet that at some point in that 30 plus years, the city came up with the donations....so WHERE is the pool?? Don't you get it? It's a "MONEY POOL". We donate, the City finds some thing else to spend it on. So, why not let the kids have a place to SK8 that is safe. I'd bet that park gets a make over before you see a hole for the pool!!!
