Lady Indians earn shot at state tournament
Tribe whips Yamhill-Carlton 3-0 n Saturday playoff to set up battle with OES for state

The Scappoose Lady Indians soccer team dominated Yamhill-Carlton in a district playoff match on Saturday to earn a shot at the state playoffs in a battle with Oregon Episcopal School.
The Tribe posted a 3-0 win over YC and the match was never really in question.
“When we played them before they sat back and defended and this game was no different,” Coach Chris Dorough said. “Since they sit players back and in the middle we knew we had to get the ball wide and crack their shell. Our first goal was scored by Ariel (Viera) and assisted by Athena Loos. Later in the half, Hayley Tuttle scored with her left foot on a pass from Kate Collard. In the second half, Hayley put the game away with a goal on a pass from Ariel. Our defense played great and only allowed three shots on goal. Emma Fouts played a great game out wide left, filling in for a sick Ashley Peterson.”
The win sent Scappoose up against OES on Tuesday (Nov. 3). The Lady Indians led OES 2-0 in their only other meeting this season (Oct. 20), before OES came back and tied the match. That game was also at OES.
Dorough is very pleased with the play of his club in the last week. “We have scored a lot of goals without giving any up in the last week (21-0) and have won four straight games going in. We have 10 wins (five last year) and feel great going into the game.”
OES is a perennial power in the 4A/3A/2A/1A playoffs. A Scappoose win would be considered a major upset.
Scappoose 8, Tillamook 0
The Lady Indians were able to put away Tillamook last week with an easy 8-0 win on Monday, Oct. 26.
“In the pouring rain, we were able to score early and often,” Dorough said. “In the first half, Ariel (Viera) had a hat trick (three goals), all assisted by Ashley Peterson. Lacey Maloney added two goals. In the second half, we added three more goals. (They came) from Ellie Mullen, Shaylee McGuire, and Ashley (Peterson). For all three, it was their first goal of the year.”
Scappoose 10, Rainier 0
On Wednesday, Oct. 28, the Lady Indians rolled past Rainier, scoring five goals in each half.
“On senior night, our offense was once again clicking,” Dorough noted. “We were able to get the ball wide and keep possession which resulted in goals. Ariel (Viera) had another hat trick. We also had goals from Ashley (Peterson), Emily Flanagan on a beautiful left-footed free kick, Ellie (Mullen), and Shaylee (McGuire). Freshman Molly Orr added her first goal on varsity, and Liz Knudsen got on the score sheet as well. The other goal was an own goal by Rainier.”
