The Scappoose Indians put together a furious second half comeback to shock Tillamook, 3-2, and earn themselves an unexpected shot at a state playoff berth.
Going into the second half of a league playoff match on Tuesday, Tillamook had scored 10 unanswered goals against Scappoose. They were leading 2-0 and things looked bleak for the Indians.
What ensued in the second half was a remarkable come-from-behind win with three goals by Scappoose.
The ‘Mooks scored around the 17th and 30th minutes of the first half, and seemed quite comfortable with their lead.
“I told the guys at halftime this is not good,” Scappoose Coach Bob Deuker said. “I told them the next 40 minutes should belong to us–never give up, no matter what the score is. We did just that.”
Brady Dieter got the Indians back into the match with a long pass to the 18-yard box. The ball was deflected out to Gabe Goodrich who settled the ball, dribbled around two defenders and then was taken down. That resulted in a direct free kick–a one-on-one penalty kick between the kicker and the goalkeeper. Dieter took the shot and put the ball into the top left corner.
