After falling behind early, Scappoose tied the score 1-1 on an RBI-single from Sam Padgett in the second inning. The Tigers tried to move ahead, but had two runners called out in close plays at the plate.
Reynolds broke the game open with a five-run spurt in the fourth inning, sparked with two-run doubles by Mitchell Rose and Joseph Palmisano. Backus came on in relief at the end of the fourth inning and held Reynolds scoreless down the stretch. He finished the fourth with a strikeout to strand a runner at third base. Teammate Kyle Kramer turned a double play to end another Reynolds threat in the sixth.
Scappoose 12, Central Point 0
Scappoose made it to the semifinals with a solid win over Central Point on Thursday.
The game had been rescheduled from Wednesday due to extreme heat. The loss eliminated Central Point and kept Scappoose alive.
Paul Revis led off the game with a single for Scappoose. He stole second, went to third on a balk, and scored on Kyle Kramer’s single.
Defensively, the bottom of the first was the worst for Scappoose. The first batter was hit, and an error would put another on base. Scappoose would cut down both runners at home. Central Point would only get two runners to base the remainder of the game.
The local Juniors staged a two-out rally in the second for three runs. Walks to Michael Lohman and Kevin Dykes put two runners on base. Revis then singled one home. Kramer’s hard-hit ball at third bounced off and the error resulted in two runs scoring.
Scappoose wouldn’t score again until the fourth, but took the game in hand. Tyler Schillereff led off with a single and Lohman drove him home with another. Sam Padgett then singled to score Lohman. Revis followed with a walk, but Padgett was out trying to go home on a fielder’s choice that put Kramer on base. Kody Backus followed with a double to deep center to score two more. He went home on Kyle Durvin’s sacrifice fly.
The locals needed one run in the fifth and then to hold Central Point scoreless to end the game. Jesse Hanson reached base on an infield single, and Lohman followed with a single. A play at first would allow Hanson to score, and then Revis was hit by a pitch. A balk sent Lohman home and moved Revis to third. A sacrifice fly to right by Kramer would score the 12th run for Scappoose.
Kramer started the game pitching for Scappoose then was relived by Tyler Schillereff in the third. Kevin Dykes pitched the fourth, and Durvin finished the contest.
